Saturday Reviews! Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup

I ran out of my go-to foundation: Maybelline-Fit Me Foundation, and when I got to Target they were completely out of my color! I figured since Neutrogena has a lot of skin-condition based products, that it would be a good choice to test out a new foundation from their line. Unfortunately I was wrong. I tried out the Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup in Classic Ivory (10) foundation for about 1 and 1/2 weeks, I kept trying to give it a chance, but I wasn’t impressed at all.

This foundation’s number one focus is Shine Control, up to 8 hours. My skins been all over the place lately, being in an Esthetics program gives you a chance to get a lot of different facials that change your skin in so many ways. Lately I’ve had pretty dry skin, with a slightly oily T-Zone, and unfortunately this foundation did not control the oil or shine throughout the day. Along with the foundation not staying matte, it would adhere strongly to my dry patches on my face, and that’s not attractive. Settling on dry patches wasn’t the only place it stayed, the foundation also would settle right into the creases of my nose, which has never happened with any other foundation I used before. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that it doesn’t set, even with a setting/blotting powder. It’s a philosophy to place powder on top of a foundation, I have always done it because my skin has always had an oiliness to it.

I would highly suggest this foundation for normal skin, I believe it would be too harsh for sensitive skin, and not matte enough for oily skin. Since my skin can rarely be sensitive, it surprised me when I found that I started breaking out on my forehead, I have pretty sturdy skin, so it takes a big change for my skin to react in a bad way. I would suggest the minute you get a breakout or small allergic reaction to makeup, that you stop using it right away. It’s your skins way of telling you it doesn’t want/nor can handle that certain product.

Pros:

  1. SPF 20

  2. Price ($11.99) That is a little pricey for drugstore, but much cheaper than department

Cons:

  1. Doesn’t last 8 hours

  2. Does not control shine

  3. Not easy to blend

  4. Settles in creases

  5. Sticks more to dry patches

  6. Doesn’t easily set, even with a powder

  7. Looks cakey on the skin, even with one thin layer

If you’re in the market for a new foundation I suggest you do a lot of research, whether it’s online or if you go consult with someone that works in a makeup store. Picking the right foundation is key, your skin is your canvas. Having flawless looking skin helps create the perfect base for the rest of your makeup.
