Product Review! Makeup Geeks; Mermaid Eye Shadow

I’ve been watching Marlena’s YouTube videos for years, her YouTube name is Makeup Geek. When I discovered that she had come out with her own makeup line I got really excited. I’m not the type to go out and spend a lot of money on makeup I might not trust right away, though I trusted the products she put out. I decided to make my purchase small, just in case I wasn’t happy with my purchase. I looked at all of makeup products and finally came to the decision to purchase Mermaid. I thought it was a gorgeous color that I could see myself using a lot.

When I first got it in the mail I was so excited, typical girl reaction with makeup, but who cares! When I saw the packaging I was very pleased, it was simple and chic at the same time. The one problem I found was how the eye shadow pan in the compact was secured. I noticed that it had slightly been lifted from the bottom of the compact and noticed it was stuck in there with what looked like a “Glue Dot” which is often used for scrap booking not makeup. That really annoyed me because every eye shadow I have purchased in the past was heavily glued into the compact it came in. I don’t know if a Glue Dot was used so that easy removal could take place to put the eye shadow in a palette or it was the cheapest thing to use.

My annoyance for the Glue Dot was erased when I swatched the color on my hand, it was more gorgeous in person, the picture online did not do it justice. It had a intense color payoff and the texture wasn’t what I was use to, it was in a way creamy, but it isn’t a cream product. What I found great about the texture is that, there is a lot less fallout than most eye shadows with such an intense color payoff. As you can see below the three swatches look very similar but very different at the same time. The first swatch on the left is Mermaid without any product underneath it, not even a primer. The middle swatch is on top of NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, and the last swatch on the right is over Urban Decay’s 24/7 liner in Perversion. This shows that you can have an intense look or a very soft and fresh look. I haven’t tried the product wet, I don’t believe this product would look different with water or Mixing Medium from Mac Cosmetics.

Some people like to think that a color like this isn’t a necessity in a makeup collection, I have a lot of eye shadows and loose pigments and even eye liners in a very similar color because this type of color looks amazing with any skin tone or any eye color. I highly recommend this color for anyone who’s starting off with makeup, it gives you a great start to fun makeup that isn’t too bright to show off if you’re just starting out. I really enjoyed testing it out, I found that this color would be amazing with a light brown smokey eye on the top lid and having only this on the bottom. Another look, which I already tried out is using this one shadow and placing it all over the lid with an inner eye corner highlight.
