Makeup Brush Cleaning
Today I’m going to talk about the most annoying chore required if you do your makeup: WASHING YOUR BRUSHES. No I’m not yelling, but I know we all treat it like laundry, just leave it until you have like 1 sock left…..
You guys, it’s so important to clean your brushes! So many people think; “the brushes only ever go on my face, so obviously they aren’t full of bad bacteria” wrong! Bacteria can build up whether the item is directly hit with it, or just from the air. Do you have any spots/acne? There’s your bacteria growing right now! Using dirty brushes can spread that bacteria from your acne alllllll over your face!
Some people think spot cleaning is all they need to maintain their brushes, but that’s not exactly true. Yes, spot cleaning helps remove the makeup, that you just applied. But if you have build-up all throughout your bush, down to the base; that spot cleaner spray isn’t going to get down there and properly clean.
I love using the Beauty Blender: Beauty Cleanser Solid. It deep cleans my brushes down to the core, and yes I do procrastinate cleaning my brushes. This brush cleaner rinsing out really well (no grimy residue) and it smells super fresh! My brushes come out soft, and as if I just purchased the brushes! You can also use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo too! I’ve found it’s harder to wash out, which wastes more water. So I stick to the Beauty Blender Solid.
I also have been obsessing over the Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette. I just dip my brushes in warm water, rub it into the Solid cleanser and scrub away on the Real Techniques Palette. You’ll repeat these steps until the water coming out of your brushes runs clear.
Lay them to dry, on a clean and dry towel. My brushes tend to take a total 24 hours to fully dry. But if you’re impatient you can use the blow dryer to help them dry faster!
So tell me, what your favorite brush cleanser? And why? I love experimenting!
