Blueberry Days at Apple Hill!
If you’re from or live in California currently, you’ve probably heard of Apple Hill….and if not, you’re missing out. So what is Apple Hill you ask? Well I’ll give you the run down!
It all started in 1951, when Floyd Bolster made the decision to retire in Camino, Ca. He purchased a 10-acre ranch which was home to tons of apple trees! Multiple events followed along, and years later “Apple Hill” became a popular place to take friends, and family! You can read more about the history of Apple Hill here >Apple Hill History. As of today, Apple Hill is a long road that’s home to 50+ family-owned farms!
The most popular Apple Hill orchard is most likely Boa Vista Orchards (my personal favorite). They host tons of events! And they’re open all year round! Keeping the community together in Apple Hill, other farms join in on the events! Today I’m going to be talking all about their most recent event: Blueberry Days. (7/6/19)
I’m also adding in a bit of fun, with blueberry picking at Rainbow Camino Ridge!
I’m going to start with the beginning of my day in Apple Hill! Me and my sister headed to Camino Ridge, for blueberry picking! Part of Rainbow Camino Ridge, this is just their orchard of blueberries only!
It’s beautiful here! But man was it scorching hot! But blueberries are worth the heat….at least in my eyes. This orchard is home to tons of different varieties of blueberries, such as: Legacies, Duke, Chandler, Liberty, Blue Crop, Ozark Blue, Elliot, Titan, and Toro. This farm is only open from June 2-mid July. I’d take advantage as fast as you can! (insert rainbow ridge site)
Here you can see I’m using a blue bucket, which holds 2 pounds, the yellow buckets hold 5 pounds. This full bucket cost around $10 for all the blueberry’s we picked.
Here you can see how far the blueberry trees go!
I’m grateful that farms and orchards like Camino Ridge allow people to venture through and pick!
Onto Blueberry Days at Boa Vista Orchards!
The first thing I see when I enter is the Craft Fair! I love craft fairs, because you can’t get these products anywhere else! Booths full of homemade products, including bath products, jewelry, face painting and so much more!
I couldn’t pass up getting something for myself! Which is a Rose Quartz necklace, it was only $10!
Onto my favorite part of this whole Blueberry Days event: the food and drinks!
Blueberry Lemonade
Blueberry Donuts
Blueberry Ice Cream
Blueberry Turnovers
Blueberry Dumplings
Blueberry Cider (Alcoholic)
(I now have 3 growlers from Boa Vista Orcahrds….) But their cider is so good!
Regardless of it being like 90 degrees up in Placerville (which it’s usually much cooler), it was such a fun experience and I hope you guys enjoyed seeing everything I did and everything I ate… If you have the chance to visit any of the farms in Apple Hill, I highly recommend it, especially in the summer and fall!
